Just thinking from potential human error perspective, it’s so difficult to beat this if the competition has the race course secured within its system with consistency to do the same thing rep after rep. Any tiny human error will lose to this

seems the the pivotal factor was deep reinforcement learning, with the drone's control code undergoing virtual training on the race course to achieve mastery of the optimal route.
