A world in which OpenAI & big tech companies like Microsoft dominate AI is a world in which European values—about privacy, ethics and transparency—could become an afterthought.
Nations can’t afford to rely on the U.S.—or China for that matter—for what could be the 21st century’s most vital technology. Their home countries agree with this drive for AI self-sufficiency or “sovereign AI”
First, nations around the world want in on the action of what could soon be a trillion-dollar AI market and a key engine of economic growth. Second, they are motivated by a patriotic impulse to build homegrown #Artificial Intelligence systems that reflect local language, politics and culture. And last, most of them see technological independence as a way to avoid getting caught in the middle of growing tensions between China and the U.S.
