I know little about the legal issues here but it seems to me that the entire edifice of LLM rests on using vast amounts of training material that's used without obtaining any rights or approval to do so from those who created the material in the first place. Why isn't this theft? Perhaps not in strict legal terms but ethically? And some want copyright protection on AI creations based on this theft?! Haven't we been down this road with Google and FB stealing content and destroying local newspapers? More fortunes created on the backs of other people's work?
