Hype Cycle for #Artificial Intelligence in 2024
Some areas that might be relatively less well-known:
Edge AI: AI processing that happens directly on devices (like smartphones or smart home devices) instead of in the cloud.
AI Engineering: The practice of designing, building, and maintaining AI systems, similar to software engineering.
AI TRiSM: A framework for responsible AI development, standing for Transparency, Risk management, Innovation, Safety, and Management.
Sovereign AI: AI systems that are designed to operate independently, making decisions without human oversight.
Composite AI: AI systems that combine different AI technologies (like machine learning and rule-based systems) to achieve more complex tasks.
The full report is lengthy, but an interesting read.
Compared to last year's Hype Cycle , AI engineering and knowledge graphs have emerged as the biggest movers.
These areas are crucial for robust and reliable AI solutions, especially as enterprises scale up. AI engineering enables better team collaboration, while knowledge graphs offer a dependable alternative to deep-learning techniques.
I am also interested in is Embodied AI, which has been a major topic at AI conferences in 2024. The prediction is that it will reach the plateau in 2-5 years, promising a future where AI is more integrated into our daily lives.
As a user, I'm excited, but I also curious about how to process the effective regulation and risk management for responsible AI development, which is not a given yet.
What do you think? Which area interests you the most?
