#Effective Altruism , which focuses attention on the dangers of AI over short-term profit or productivity benefits, has gained notoriety because of high-profile supporters such as crypto fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried. Some former directors at OpenAI who temporarily fired CEO Sam Altman last year also have had ties to the EA movement.

SBF of FTX is the most famous basket case of this new age philosophy which in theory sounds good until its radical members carry out their deranged and wacky policies in the corporate environment.

Yes, the board should be committed to it's charter. However, firing the co-founder and CEO of arguably the most important company of our generation over a 20 minute lunch break, while failing to include ALL board directors during the call (Brockman was left out), and not giving your partners, employees, and investors a courtesy heads up is so brazenly unprofessional and unethical.

Their childish and misguided rationale to "saving humanity" and "adhering to the charter" is an obvious facade when analyzing their petty approach. They completely destabilized the organization, placing the economic livelihood of over 700 employees that have been working hard on this technology long before some of the board members rolled out of bed and joined the company.

It's clear the board is not interested in humanity, because 95% of their staff voted for them to resign. We can infer that if 95% of the world voted them out, these self-righteous zealots would think they know what's good for us and still fight to stay on the board.

If we can't agree on that, then more important than the firing of Sam Altman is the manner by which he was fired and that should be the determining factor of whether any of us respects this board.

You may remember, unless you’ve already erased your memory, that Altman lost his board seat when he was fired in mid-November, triggering a dayslong saga that ended when OpenAI reinstated him as CEO, without his board seat, and replaced most of the board. Also Friday, OpenAI announced that the investigation into the events surrounding Altman’s firing had ended with his complete exoneration. The law firm doing the inquiry, WilmerHale, concluded that the episode resulted from a “loss of trust between the prior board and Mr Altman.” That’s what you call a crack team of investigators. Anyone reading the media reports back in November could have told you that!
