If it is experimental, let me turn it the hell off.

Remember desktop search? It was the Next Big Thing back in the 1990's. lasted a year or so and fizzled. AI is going to follow the same trajectory because these problems are baked into the way it works. It hoovers up everything, including crazy people, ignorant people, jokes, and lies. It doesn't understand what it is seeing and no one filters it. All it understands is this word or phrase is often followed by this one.

Add to that the ongoing problem of search optimization. Google search is pretty sucky these days, and yet their summarization AI is drawing directly on that suckitude. Garbage in, garbage out.

One thing about Google’s AI answers is that there’s zero clarity on how the system chooses what to elevate. Should AI answers include material from random Reddit comments? An example: the bullet point about cats licking you to see if you’re fit for consumption was word for word taken from one Reddit post that was clearly a joke.
