The World Internet Conference, also known as the Wuzhen Summit, has been less of a “world” event in recent years, with little participation from overseas. In its heyday, pre-pandemic, big names like Apple CEO Tim Cook were regular guests. 

To stay relevant, this year’s conference focused on the obvious: artificial intelligence. Event organizer, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), used the occasion to announce a new specialist committee on AI to help spearhead efforts on how the fast-growing technology should be governed.
