Apple has reclaimed its crown as the No. 1 company by market capitalization, thanks to a rally over the past couple of weeks, presumably driven by growing expectations about the coming iPhone launch.

Surely one thing that helped fuel the optimism was a report from Bloomberg on Wednesday that Apple plans to ship 10% more iPhones in the second half of this year, compared to the same period in 2023. Revenue from iPhone sales fell in fiscal 2023 and the first half of fiscal 2024, so a 10% uptick would mark a big shift.

The Bloomberg report suggested demand for Apple’s new AI services would drive the stronger shipment numbers, although it’s not clear when those features will be available. Whatever the case, Apple shares rose nearly 2% on Wednesday, giving it a market capitalization of $3.572 trillion, compared with Microsoft’s $3.465 trillion. Nvidia was at $3.3 trillion.
